What is The Graph?
The Graph is a decentralized application indexing protocol that allows developers to efficiently access blockchain data. Developers can create so-called subgraphs that define how to incorporate, index and present blockchain data in a verifiable manner.
In the protocol there are multiple participants, these are divided into four types:
Indexers: Node operators who are staking GRT to provide indexing and processing services. Indexers earn indexation rewards for their services.
Curators: Developers of subgraphs, data consumers, or community members who indicate to Indexers which APIs should be indexed by the protocol.
Delegators: Individuals who want to contribute to the security of the network, but do not want to run a Graph node themselves.
Consumers: The end users of the network who request subgraphs and pay search fees to the indexers, curators, and delegators.
What is the GRT token?
GRT is the native ERC-20 utility token of The Graph protocol and has several different use cases. For example, indexers can stake in GRT to provide indexing and search services. In addition to stakes, bankruptcy trustees can also deposit GRT in a bonding curve to signal a specific subgraph and earn part of the demand costs. Delegators, in turn, contribute by delegating GRT to existing Indexers, earning a portion of the query fees and indexing rewards in return. In addition, it is used by consumers as a means of payment. Consumers pay GRT for subgraph searches to the indexers, curators and delegators.
